It was early 2005 and Stormhoek winery had commissioned me to do some collateral work for trade marketing. I drew this one night in Cumbria as we were preparing for the 2005 London Wine Trade Fair, more as a lark than anything. I was trying to convey the utter futileness of the wine business. Too many sellers, too few buyers and most producers unable to differentiate their product. In less polite businesses, it would be described as "Utter Desperation". Ultimately, the image was so popular with the wine trade that we produced it as a lithograph. They were so popular, I then recreated them in Green and Purple.
